Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

What you notice first is the pearl — a rounded nacre surface with a soft, layered lustre rather than a hard shine. Against that surface, the copper sits as a warm reddish metal with a soft, low-glare surface. Physically it is a matched pair, balanced for weight. The piece belongs to Dolma Designs, a series using compassion and quiet courage as contemporary design themes. The Buddha motif is rendered as a seated figure in shallow relief. It is drawn from Buddhist visual tradition and gives the design a composed, symmetrical centre; its meaning sits with the wearer rather than in any promised outcome.

The piece mixes several materials, and each one has its own habits in wear. Pearl is a different case in wear: it has a comparatively soft nacre surface, so it is better kept away from other pieces in storage. The copper appears as a warm red-brown metal that never glares back at you. Over months of wear, its surface deepens in tone the longer it is worn, so the colour you receive keeps moving.

One configuration is listed — Shoushan Stone (Copper Posts) — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. Tell us how you intend to wear it and we will point at the option that suits it. Love is a personal association here rather than something the piece is said to do. Because these are natural materials, expect small differences in colour and pattern between the photo and your piece. Nothing is charged until the exact piece and its measurements have been confirmed with you in writing.

Care

Put pearls on after perfume and take them off first; wipe them with a soft damp cloth and dry them fully. Wipe it dry after wear and store it away from damp air; polish only with a copper-safe cloth if you want the original brightness. Take it off before swimming, bathing or washing up; prolonged water is the most common cause of avoidable wear. Put it on last and take it off first, and keep it in its own pouch between wears.
