Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

The first decision in this design was the aquamarine, a pale blue-to-green transparent stone, lightly toned rather than saturated. Beside it, the moonstone is a milky, semi-transparent stone with a soft moving sheen across the surface, so the piece reads in two registers at once. Physically it is a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone. The piece belongs to Dolma Designs, a series using compassion and quiet courage as contemporary design themes.

The materials do not age at the same rate, and that difference is worth setting out. For the aquamarine, the behaviour matters more than the finish: it is a relatively hard stone that holds a clean polish, though long soaking dulls the surface. Moonstone needs a separate note: it is a moderately soft stone with visible internal cleavage, so it prefers careful handling. The tiger eye is a golden-brown banded stone that shifts and brightens as the piece turns. Over months of wear, it is hard and holds a polish well, so it is one of the more forgiving stones for a daily-worn bracelet. Agate — a banded stone that stays faintly translucent, so each layer picks up light differently. In everyday use, it takes daily knocks without dulling, though a thin edge can still chip against stone or metal. The sterling silver appears as a bright white metal with a cool tone and a high polish. Worn against fabric, it is a softer metal than steel and will take small scratches; the surface also tarnishes to a darker tone over time. Inside the piece, the silver-tone metal is a bright cool-toned metal finish, plated rather than solid silver. With regular wear, the finish holds up well day to day, though a plated layer thins gradually where it rubs. The textile cord is a tight woven cord with a matte, slightly fibrous surface. Worn regularly, it stays soft against the skin and holds a knot well, but a daily-worn strand will fray where it rubs a clasp.

One configuration is listed — Tiger Eye — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. One configuration is listed — Silvery — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. Anything not visible in the photographs is answered against the actual piece before you decide. Protection is presented as cultural context and a personal reminder, not a guaranteed result. Because these are natural materials, expect small differences in colour and pattern between the photo and your piece. We confirm the current piece, the finished dimensions and the lead time in writing before any payment.

Care

Keep it away from prolonged water and household chemicals and wipe it dry after wear. Avoid impact and chemicals, and store it separately from harder stones. Wipe it dry and store it separately; nothing beyond avoiding long soaking is needed. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and store it separately so the polish is not scratched by other jewellery. Keep it dry, store it in a low-air space, and use a non-abrasive silver cloth when you want the original brightness back. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Keep it dry, avoid perfume and household chemicals, and replace the cord once the fibres begin to lift. Keep it out of a damp room and separate from harder pieces, and the finish will hold far longer.
