Wipe it with a soft dry cloth; a deliberately raw surface should not be polished. Wipe it dry after wear; a soft cloth restores the shine, and any intentional antique finish should be left alone. Keep it dry, avoid perfume and household chemicals, and replace the cord once the fibres begin to lift. Water, perfume and cleaning products are the three things most likely to shorten its life. Storing it apart from other pieces keeps the surface in the condition it arrived in.
