Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

The lapis lazuli sets the tone: a deep blue stone, usually with flecks of gold-tone pyrite and white calcite through it. Set against that, the pearl is a rounded nacre surface with a soft, layered lustre rather than a hard shine. As a shape it is a matched pair, balanced for weight. It belongs to Dolma Designs, a series using compassion and quiet courage as contemporary design themes.

What follows is a plain description of each material, including how it changes. For the lapis lazuli, the behaviour matters more than the finish: it is a softer stone than quartz and will dull where it is rubbed repeatedly. Pearl needs a separate note: it has a comparatively soft nacre surface, so it is better kept away from other pieces in storage.

The fit is set from the measurement you supply, so nothing is assumed. Ask for extra photographs of the exact piece if any detail matters to your decision. The design language points at balance; it makes no claim about what the piece does. Because these are natural materials, expect small differences in colour and pattern between the photo and your piece. Availability, the final measurements and the preparation window are confirmed with you in writing before payment.

Care

Keep it away from water, soap, perfume and household cleaners. Put pearls on after perfume and take them off first; wipe them with a soft damp cloth and dry them fully. Water, perfume and cleaning products are the three things most likely to shorten its life. Keep it out of a damp room and separate from harder pieces, and the finish will hold far longer.
