The first decision in this design was the super seven quartz, a quartz carrying visible inclusions of several minerals, so no two beads look the same. Beside it, the amethyst is a violet quartz, transparent to cloudy, with the even colour strongest in the centre of each bead, so the piece reads in two registers at once. The proportions are kept to a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone, and the design belongs to Dolma Designs, a series using compassion and quiet courage as contemporary design themes. The mountain motif takes the form of a ridgeline silhouette. High ground recurs throughout this studio’s design language, and the profile is used here as a way of holding a landscape in mind rather than as a claim about where the piece was made.
Here is how each part of the piece behaves over time. For the super seven quartz, the behaviour matters more than the finish: the inclusions sit inside the polished surface and stay stable through normal wear. Amethyst needs a separate note: it wears well day to day, though the colour fades under prolonged strong sunlight. The sterling silver is a bright white metal with a cool tone and a high polish. Over months of wear, it is a softer metal than steel and will take small scratches; the surface also tarnishes to a darker tone over time. Silver-Tone Metal — a bright cool-toned metal finish, plated rather than solid silver. In everyday use, the finish holds up well day to day, though a plated layer thins gradually where it rubs.
We ask for a measurement rather than offering a generic size, and confirm the finished fit in writing. Tell us how you intend to wear it and we will point at the option that suits it. The contemplative theme is a wearer’s reminder; no effect is claimed for the material itself. Slight differences in shade, inclusion and grain between pieces are inherent to the materials. The piece, its dimensions and the preparation window are set out in writing first, and only then is payment taken.
Care
Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and avoid prolonged sun and chemicals. Store it out of direct sun and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep it dry, store it in a low-air space, and use a non-abrasive silver cloth when you want the original brightness back. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Wipe it after wear, store it dry and away from direct sun, and it will need very little else.
