What is the difference between a wrist mala and a 108-bead mala?

A wrist mala is a short strand worn around the wrist. A 108-bead mala has a fixed traditional count, hangs longer, and is usually worn as a necklace or looped over the hand. The product page states the count and the finished length so you can picture the difference before ordering.

Does the 108-bead count mean the beads are uniform?

The count is uniform because the format requires it; the beads themselves are natural stone and vary slightly in diameter and colour. On the pieces where a spacer or marker bead is used, it is named in the specifications rather than left to the photographs.

How long will a cord last with daily wear?

A cord worn daily typically shows its first wear around a year, sooner if the piece is worn in water. Stiffness, fraying near the knot or a bead that slides freely are the early signs. We restring pieces we made where parts allow; message us with a photograph before the strand is at risk.

Can I wear a mala in water?

Better not to. Water, chlorine and salt weaken most cording, and some stones soften or discolour with repeated soaking. If you want a piece you can shower and swim in, tell us and we will point you to the strands built to tolerate it rather than leave you to find out.

Are the tassels decorative or functional?

Mostly decorative, tying off the strand and covering the knot. On some pieces the tassel is the finish itself and is not load bearing. Where that is the case the product page says so, which matters if the piece is worn daily rather than kept for quieter occasions.

Which amethyst do you use?

Deep purple material in the pieces you see photographed, with the tone described per item because amethyst varies a lot between lots. Some pieces combine amethyst with clear quartz, strawberry quartz or a metal accent, and the composition is listed component by component.
