The first decision in this design was the super seven quartz, a quartz carrying visible inclusions of several minerals, so no two beads look the same. The second note comes from the amethyst: a violet quartz, transparent to cloudy, with the even colour strongest in the centre of each bead. It takes the form of a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone, and it belongs to Dolma Designs, a series using compassion and quiet courage as contemporary design themes. The mountain motif takes the form of a ridgeline silhouette. High ground recurs throughout this studio’s design language, and the profile is used here as a way of holding a landscape in mind rather than as a claim about where the piece was made.
Each component is listed with the way it behaves, so nothing about the ageing comes as a surprise. Super Seven Quartz needs a separate note: the inclusions sit inside the polished surface and stay stable through normal wear. Amethyst is a different case in wear: it wears well day to day, though the colour fades under prolonged strong sunlight. The silver-tone metal is a bright silver-coloured metal finish rather than solid silver. Over months of wear, it keeps its tone with normal wear, and a plated surface can thin over years of daily contact. Copper — a warm red-brown metal that never glares back at you. In everyday use, its surface deepens in tone the longer it is worn, so the colour you receive keeps moving.
The design is offered in two configurations — “Style 1” and “Style 2” — so the choice is about the option rather than the size. The photographs and the written summary carry the same detail, so nothing about the selected piece is left to assumption. The contemplative theme is a wearer’s reminder; no effect is claimed for the material itself. Because the stones are selected individually, small variations in colour depth and marking should be expected. The piece, its dimensions and the preparation window are set out in writing first, and only then is payment taken.
