Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

What you notice first is the turquoise — a blue-to-green stone, usually opaque, often carrying a darker matrix web across the surface. Against that surface, the obsidian sits as a near-black volcanic glass with a deep, mirror-like surface. Physically it is a strand that sits at the wrist. The piece belongs to Lhasa Moments, a series built around highland light, stone colour and architectural lines.

The individual materials are described below, since each has a different tolerance for water, light and knocks. Inside the piece, the turquoise is an opaque blue-green stone, with a darker matrix webbing that shifts piece to piece. Handled often, being soft and slightly porous, it prefers to be kept clear of hard contact. Obsidian needs a separate note: it takes a very high polish but is more brittle than crystalline stone, so it chips rather than scratches. Silver-Tone Metal — a bright cool-toned metal finish, plated rather than solid silver. In everyday use, the finish holds up well day to day, though a plated layer thins gradually where it rubs. The copper is a warm reddish metal with a soft, low-glare surface. Worn against fabric, it darkens toward a brown patina with wear and skin contact, which some owners prefer and others polish back. Inside the piece, the textile cord is a closely braided cord whose matte surface shows the weave up close. With regular wear, it softens further with handling, and a strand worn every day will eventually lift where it crosses a metal edge.

It is offered as Silver Sheen Obsidian Grey Jasper (Wrist Circumference: 15–18 cm), which is the configuration shown in the photographs. If you are between two options, the smaller one usually sits better on a piece that carries weight. The protective reading of this piece is a wearer’s reminder, not a result it guarantees. Bead tone, matrix and grain will not repeat exactly from one piece to the next, and that is normal. The selected piece, its measurements and the preparation window are confirmed in writing before you pay.

Care

Keep it away from perfume, sunscreen, soap and household cleaners, none of which the stone tolerates well. Avoid impact at edges and store it separately so the polished surface is not marked. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Wipe it dry after wear and store it away from damp air; polish only with a copper-safe cloth if you want the original brightness. Keep it dry, avoid perfume and household chemicals, and replace the cord once the fibres begin to lift. A soft dry cloth after each wear is usually enough; store it separately to limit contact marks.
