Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

The clear quartz carries the design, and it is a near-colourless, transparent stone with faint internal veining and small natural inclusions. The lapis lazuli provides the counterweight, being a deep blue stone, usually with flecks of gold-tone pyrite and white calcite through it. Physically it is a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone. The piece belongs to Lhasa Moments, a series built around highland light, stone colour and architectural lines. The mountain motif takes the form of a ridgeline silhouette. High ground recurs throughout this studio’s design language, and the profile is used here as a way of holding a landscape in mind rather than as a claim about where the piece was made.

A short account of the materials, taken in the order they matter to the design. The clear quartz is a transparent, near-colourless stone whose faint internal veining shows through the polish. Worn regularly, it holds a clean polish well and hides light handling better than a softer stone would. Lapis Lazuli needs a separate note: it is a softer stone than quartz and will dull where it is rubbed repeatedly. The sterling silver appears as a bright white metal with a cool tone and a high polish. Against the skin, it is a softer metal than steel and will take small scratches; the surface also tarnishes to a darker tone over time. Inside the piece, the silver-tone metal is a bright cool-toned metal finish, plated rather than solid silver. Handled often, the finish holds up well day to day, though a plated layer thins gradually where it rubs. The textile cord is a tight woven cord with a matte, slightly fibrous surface. Over months of wear, it stays soft against the skin and holds a knot well, but a daily-worn strand will fray where it rubs a clasp.

Sizing is confirmed from your own measurement rather than from a standard label. Tell us how you intend to wear it and we will point at the option that suits it. What the motif stands for is a personal intention, and no result is promised for it. Stone and organic materials are never identical twice: minor variation in tone and figure is part of the material. We confirm the current piece, the finished dimensions and the lead time in writing before any payment.

Care

Avoid prolonged direct sun and household chemicals, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Keep it away from water, soap, perfume and household cleaners. Keep it dry, store it in a low-air space, and use a non-abrasive silver cloth when you want the original brightness back. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Keep it dry, avoid perfume and household chemicals, and replace the cord once the fibres begin to lift. Keep it out of a damp room and separate from harder pieces, and the finish will hold far longer.
