Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

Read at arm’s length the piece is mostly turquoise: a blue-to-green stone, usually opaque, often carrying a darker matrix web across the surface. The second note is the cinnabar — a deep red material with a dense, almost matte surface. Physically it is a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone. The piece belongs to Lhasa Moments, a series built around highland light, stone colour and architectural lines. A mantra line is inscribed across the surface, following a Tibetan-language formula and reproduced as a design element. It is presented as cultural context rather than as a ritual service or a charged object.

Here is how each part of the piece behaves over time. Inside the piece, the turquoise is an opaque blue-green stone, with a darker matrix webbing that shifts piece to piece. Handled often, being soft and slightly porous, it prefers to be kept clear of hard contact. Cinnabar needs a separate note: the colour is even and strong, and the surface is firm but dislikes abrasion. Tiger Eye — a banded stone whose gold and brown lines move with the light as the piece turns. In everyday use, it is hard and takes a good polish, so it survives daily wear better than most stones. The obsidian is a near-black volcanic glass with a deep, mirror-like surface. Worn against fabric, it takes a very high polish but is more brittle than crystalline stone, so it chips rather than scratches. Inside the piece, the sterling silver is a cool white metal that takes a mirror-bright polish. With regular wear, softer than steel, it collects fine scratches, and the surface slowly shifts toward a darker tone. The silver-tone metal appears as a bright silver-coloured metal finish rather than solid silver. Worn regularly, it keeps its tone with normal wear, and a plated surface can thin over years of daily contact. Copper — a warm red-brown metal that never glares back at you. Day to day, its surface deepens in tone the longer it is worn, so the colour you receive keeps moving. The brass is a warm yellow metal with a slightly duller, more golden surface than copper. Against the skin, it develops a darker tone and, in damp air, a green-ish film that buffs away.

Three options are listed, namely “NECKLACE”, “BRACELET” and “NECKLACE & BRACELET”. The strand is offered in three wrist ranges, from 6.75–8 in to 9.5–10.5 in. Where the listed range is close to your measurement, it is worth confirming rather than guessing. The theme here is courage as a daily cue; nothing about the piece is a promise of safety. Because the stones are selected individually, small variations in colour depth and marking should be expected. Nothing is charged until the exact piece and its measurements have been confirmed with you in writing.

Care

Keep it away from perfume, sunscreen, soap and household cleaners, none of which the stone tolerates well. Avoid water, heat and household chemicals, and store the piece separately to prevent scuffing. Wipe it dry and store it separately; nothing beyond avoiding long soaking is needed. Avoid impact at edges and store it separately so the polished surface is not marked. Keep it dry, store it in a low-air space, and use a non-abrasive silver cloth when you want the original brightness back. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Wipe it dry after wear and store it away from damp air; polish only with a copper-safe cloth if you want the original brightness. Wipe it dry after wear; a soft cloth restores the shine, and any intentional antique finish should be left alone. A soft dry cloth after each wear is usually enough; store it separately to limit contact marks.
