Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

Built around turquoise, the piece begins with a blue-to-green stone, usually opaque, often carrying a darker matrix web across the surface. The second note comes from the agate: a banded, gently translucent stone whose layers catch light at the polished surface. As a shape it is a long bead strand built for looping or wearing long. It belongs to the Dzi-style bead series, where the bead pattern leads the design and the companion materials support it. A mantra line is inscribed across the surface, following a Tibetan-language formula and reproduced as a design element. It is presented as cultural context rather than as a ritual service or a charged object.

The individual materials are described below, since each has a different tolerance for water, light and knocks. The turquoise appears as an opaque blue-green stone, with a darker matrix webbing that shifts piece to piece. Against the skin, being soft and slightly porous, it prefers to be kept clear of hard contact. Inside the piece, the agate is a banded stone that stays faintly translucent, so each layer picks up light differently. Handled often, it takes daily knocks without dulling, though a thin edge can still chip against stone or metal. The copper is a warm reddish metal with a soft, low-glare surface. Over months of wear, it darkens toward a brown patina with wear and skin contact, which some owners prefer and others polish back.

The strand comes in two bead sizes, Length 30 in (Each bead 6 mm) through Length 30 in (Each bead 8 mm). Anything not visible in the photographs is answered against the actual piece before you decide. The compassion theme is cultural reference and a wearer’s reminder, nothing more. Stone and organic materials are never identical twice: minor variation in tone and figure is part of the material. The piece, its dimensions and the preparation window are set out in writing first, and only then is payment taken.

Care

Keep it away from perfume, sunscreen, soap and household cleaners, none of which the stone tolerates well. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and store it separately so the polish is not scratched by other jewellery. Wipe it dry after wear and store it away from damp air; polish only with a copper-safe cloth if you want the original brightness. Remove it before a shower or a swim, and dry it fully if it does get wet. Keep it out of a damp room and separate from harder pieces, and the finish will hold far longer.
