Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

Its centre of gravity is the Dzi-style bead, an agate bead worked with eye, stripe or wave patterns in contrasting tones. And where the first is quiet, the silver-tone metal is a bright silver-coloured metal finish rather than solid silver. The proportions are kept to a band built around a centre detail, and the design belongs to the Dzi-style bead series, where the bead pattern leads the design and the companion materials support it. The Dzi-style motif appears as eye, stripe and wave patterns worked into the agate itself. These patterns belong to the dzi bead tradition, and the label describes the bead design only — not the age, origin or history of the piece.

Each component is listed with the way it behaves, so nothing about the ageing comes as a surprise. Dzi-Style Bead — an agate bead whose eye and stripe patterns sit in contrasting bands across the stone. Day to day, because the pattern is inside the stone rather than applied, it does not wear off with handling. The silver-tone metal is a bright cool-toned metal finish, plated rather than solid silver. Against the skin, the finish holds up well day to day, though a plated layer thins gradually where it rubs. Inside the piece, the thokcha is a dark, heavily patinated metal surface with an uneven, hand-worked feel. Handled often, the patina is part of the surface and will shift slowly with handling rather than stay uniform.

One configuration is listed — Silver — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. One configuration is listed — Adjustable Rings — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. If two options are close, say how you plan to wear the piece and we will say which one suits it better. The theme here is courage as a daily cue; nothing about the piece is a promise of safety. Natural materials vary, so tone, mark and grain will differ slightly from the photographed piece. Final measurements, availability and the preparation window are all confirmed in writing before payment.

Care

Care for it as you would a polished agate: keep it away from chemicals and impact, and wipe it dry after wear. Keep it away from water, perfume and abrasive cloths so the finish lasts longer. Keep it dry, do not over-polish it, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth. Avoid soaking it, and keep perfume and household cleaners off the surface. Store the piece separately so it does not scratch against harder jewellery.
