Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

Its centre of gravity is the malachite, a deep green stone with concentric banded patterns. The obsidian answers with a near-black volcanic glass with a deep, mirror-like surface, which keeps the palette from settling into a single note. Physically it is a long bead strand built for looping or wearing long. The piece belongs to the Dzi-style bead series, where the bead pattern leads the design and the companion materials support it.

The piece mixes several materials, and each one has its own habits in wear. For the malachite, the behaviour matters more than the finish: it is a soft stone that dulls with abrasion and is best kept to pieces worn away from hard contact. Obsidian is a different case in wear: it takes a very high polish but is more brittle than crystalline stone, so it chips rather than scratches. Inside the piece, the copper is a warm red-brown metal that never glares back at you. Handled often, its surface deepens in tone the longer it is worn, so the colour you receive keeps moving.

One configuration is listed — Standard configuration — and that is the piece confirmed from the current photographs. Anything not visible in the photographs is answered against the actual piece before you decide. Stillness is an intention a wearer may bring to the piece, not a promised effect. Each selected piece has its own colour balance and marking, so treat the photograph as a close guide rather than an exact sample. Final measurements, availability and the preparation window are all confirmed in writing before payment.

Care

Keep it away from water, acids and household cleaners, which can damage the surface. Avoid impact at edges and store it separately so the polished surface is not marked. Wipe it dry after wear and store it away from damp air; polish only with a copper-safe cloth if you want the original brightness. Avoid soaking it, and keep perfume and household cleaners off the surface. A soft dry cloth after each wear is usually enough; store it separately to limit contact marks.
