Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

Everything else in the piece is arranged around the Dzi-style bead, an agate bead worked with eye, stripe or wave patterns in contrasting tones. The yak bone answers with an ivory-toned organic material, matte and slightly porous, with natural grain marks, which keeps the palette from settling into a single note. The proportions are kept to a long bead strand built for looping or wearing long, and the design belongs to the Dzi-style bead series, where the bead pattern leads the design and the companion materials support it. The Dzi-style motif appears as eye, stripe and wave patterns worked into the agate itself. These patterns belong to the dzi bead tradition, and the label describes the bead design only — not the age, origin or history of the piece.

A short account of the materials, taken in the order they matter to the design. Dzi-Style Bead — an agate bead whose eye and stripe patterns sit in contrasting bands across the stone. Day to day, because the pattern is inside the stone rather than applied, it does not wear off with handling. Yak Bone needs a separate note: it is light, warm to the touch and slightly absorbent, so it ages fastest where it meets skin. Inside the piece, the bone is a pale, matte organic material with visible grain and a slight tonal difference between beads. Handled often, it is light in the hand and warm to the touch, but softer than stone and it dislikes knocks.

Sizing is confirmed from your own measurement rather than from a standard label. Ask for extra photographs of the exact piece if any detail matters to your decision. What the motif suggests is a personal intention; nothing about the piece is a promise of gain. The photographed piece is a representative example; natural variation in the selected piece is expected. Nothing is charged until the exact piece and its measurements have been confirmed with you in writing.

Care

Care for it as you would a polished agate: keep it away from chemicals and impact, and wipe it dry after wear. Keep it dry, out of prolonged sun, and never soak it. Keep it dry, out of prolonged sun, and wipe it gently; ask before using any cleaner. Avoid soaking it, and keep perfume and household cleaners off the surface. Put it on last and take it off first, and keep it in its own pouch between wears.
