Meaning, material & care

The details behind this piece.

What you notice first is the Dzi-style bead — an agate bead worked with eye, stripe or wave patterns in contrasting tones. The second note is the thokcha — a dark, heavily patinated metal surface with an uneven, hand-worked feel. Physically it is a hanging piece that sits at the collarbone. The piece belongs to the Dzi-style bead series, where the bead pattern leads the design and the companion materials support it. The Dzi-style motif appears as eye, stripe and wave patterns worked into the agate itself. These patterns belong to the dzi bead tradition, and the label describes the bead design only — not the age, origin or history of the piece.

The individual materials are described below, since each has a different tolerance for water, light and knocks. Inside the piece, the Dzi-style bead is an agate bead whose eye and stripe patterns sit in contrasting bands across the stone. Handled often, because the pattern is inside the stone rather than applied, it does not wear off with handling. Thokcha needs a separate note: the patina is part of the surface and will shift slowly with handling rather than stay uniform. Textile Cord — a closely braided cord whose matte surface shows the weave up close. In everyday use, it softens further with handling, and a strand worn every day will eventually lift where it crosses a metal edge.

The fit is set from the measurement you supply, so nothing is assumed. Ask for extra photographs of the exact piece if any detail matters to your decision. Abundance is a cultural association here, not a claim about money or outcome. Natural materials vary, so tone, mark and grain will differ slightly from the photographed piece. Final measurements, availability and the preparation window are all confirmed in writing before payment.

Care

Care for it as you would a polished agate: keep it away from chemicals and impact, and wipe it dry after wear. Keep it dry, do not over-polish it, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth. Keep it dry, avoid perfume and household chemicals, and replace the cord once the fibres begin to lift. Take it off before swimming, bathing or washing up; prolonged water is the most common cause of avoidable wear. Store the piece separately so it does not scratch against harder jewellery.
